Lightworks Windows 11.1 Release and Lightworks 11.1.l Public Beta (Windows Only)

The last few months we have been setting about tackling the remaining issues customers have faced using Lightworks. The biggest of all these was our current licensing system (Sentinel HASP) This has caused problems during installation, activation and simply starting the application, all of which gives a negative customer experience. We are pleased to announce that this licensing has now been removed and replaced with our own EditShare Licensing Service (ELS) This same licensing service has been trialled over the last couple of months with great success in the Linux Alpha/Beta versions.

The user will sign in to the application using their Lightworks Username and Password (an internet connection MUST be present on the system) Any existing licenses still yet to expire on the current release build of Lightworks will be honoured in the new ELS system. The user simply signs in to the new version entering their Username and Password and their existing license(s) will appear in the list for them to activate (Pro and AVID DNxHD)

The new ELS licensing has some limitations.

  • Users will not be able to detach a license from one system to another. To get around this, any user that purchases Lightworks Pro will be given a Pro license that can be used on two different systems.
  • There is no concurrent network licensing system in place. If a user has a Pro activation that has 4 concurrent users, this will show a Pro license in ELS that can be used 5 times on separate systems.
  • There is currently no way of canceling a license and moving it to another system.
  • There is currently no “Offline” activation method. Users MUST have an internet connection present on the system they have installed Lightworks on.

To coincide with the new release and the new licensing we are introducing for the first time a 30 day Pro Trial license, allowing users to experience the full power of Lightworks Pro. The 30 day trial can only be used once on a system and is not renewable. When the user signs in to the application they will be offered the chance to try the product for 30 days or continue using the Free version of Lightworks. Once the 30 day trial expires, the software will revert to the Free version.

Before we release 11.1 on 28th May we are uploading one last Beta build (11.1.l) today which includes the new ELS licensing for testing purposes.

The fixes since 11.1.k are:

  • Added entirely new EditShare Licensing System (ELS), which replaces Sentinel HASP
  • Added further improvements for R3D playback (4-5k images)
  • Fixed entire clips appearing offline in shared projects when only part of the file (audio or stereoscopic eye) was offline
  • Fixed audio mixer track selection
  • Fixed AAF settings for Protools target
  • Fixed AVC-Intra50 files importing as green image

Lightworks Windows 11.1 Release and Lightworks 11.1.k Public Beta (Windows Only)

We have rescheduled the Windows 11.1 Release to the 28th May exactly one year after the version 11 Release.

Today we are releasing the next Public Beta of Lightworks for Windows (11.1.k)

This new build is a massive milestone for Lightworks, addressing one of the biggest issues with version 11, native H.264/MP4 handling. This new build now includes native support for H.264 mov files and MP4 files (GroPro etc) without the need for transcoding in the Pro version. Free users will be forced to transcode these files on import to Lightworks.

Over the next week we are also aiming to Beta test the new EditShare Licensing Service (ELS) on Windows. This same licensing service has been trialled over the last couple of months with great success in the Linux Alpha/Beta versions.

The user will sign in to the application using their Lightworks Username and Password (an internet connection MUST be present on the system) Any existing licenses still yet to expire on the current release build of Lightworks will be honoured in the new ELS system. The user simply signs in to the new version entering their Username and Password and their existing license (should one be available) will appear in the list for them to activate (Pro and AVID DNxHD)

  • Fixed relinked media not reappearing until after restarting the application
  • Fixed video only being relinked by ‘relink missing media’ function
  • Ensure that material/sound folders are created when restoring a project from an archive
  • Fixed Timeline marker moving position after using ALT M
  • Fixed audio not being present on MP4 samples in 32bit version
  • Stop media file import browser from analyzing Lightworks link files

Lightworks for Linux public beta launches today

Today we are releasing the first Linux Public Beta version of Lightworks. Anyone can try out the Linux Beta version by signing up at:

lwks.com/betas-linux

This Beta version contains the new EditShare Licensing Service (ELS) which will allow users to sign in to the application using their lwks.com username and password. (An internet connection MUST be present on the system for initial setup.) When signing in, each new user will be automatically given a complimentary seven day Pro license to test the Pro version of Lightworks. This is renewable at the end of the seven days by simply signing back in to the application.

The Linux Beta does not include trial AVID DNxHD licensing due to restrictions imposed by AVID. We will shortly be adding the option to the Lightworks Shop lwks.com/shop for users to purchase an AVID DNxHD license specifically for the Linux version.

There are still some limitations with the current Linux build, which can be found on the Linux Beta page.

Many thanks to the Linux Alpha Testers that continually submitted feedback and helped get the Linux version to Beta stage.

The complimentary Linux activations will not appear on your Community page under Activations.

Important Update About Lightworks

Lightworks on Windows

The development work on the next version of Lightworks 11.1 is going very well and with nearly four thousand users registered and testing the latest Beta versions, we have been making excellent progress. Such an enormous amount of feedback – and the time it takes to respond to it – means that we are slightly behind with making the 11.1 Windows version available for release, but it is nearly complete. We are aiming to have the release version ready for 30th April 2013

While we finialise this next version of Lightworks we are releasing an updated installer (no code changes) for 11.0.3 which will help overcome some of the problems users have been experiencing. The changes to the installer are:

  • We have updated the HASP licensing Run Time Environment (RTE) to the latest version 6.51 (included with the current Beta version.) This should help to resolve some installation issues and potential licensing problems and will allow installation on Windows 8 systems.
  • We have updated the installer which will help resolve some startup issues, primarily to do with an Internet Explorer 10 update. There are no code changes to this version of Lightworks in this updated installer.

Lightworks on Linux

We have had a very successful Linux Alpha program and although we will narrowly miss the targeted release date at the end of Q1, we will we be making the Linux Public Beta, which includes a much improved licensing scheme, available on 30th April 2013. We have been listening to users, and the current licensing scheme has not been up to their expectations.

The new scheme will be much simpler and easier to use, and will be based around signing in to the application using your user ID and Password for www.lwks.com This same licensing scheme will be rolled out across all three platforms over the coming months. We will be trialling this new licensing scheme with the Linux Alpha Team over the next few weeks.

Lightworks on Mac

We will be showing a preview only of Lightworks running on Mac at NAB 2013. This means we are nearly ready to announce the Alpha Program for Lightworks on Mac. More information will follow soon.

Today we are releasing the next Public Beta of Lightworks for Windows (11.1.f)

We now have approximately 3000 users actively testing and reporting feedback on the latest version of Lightworks. This build primarily fixes issues that have been broken between builds.
